Scarborough junior pitcher Maureen Hannan was active on both the offensive and defensive ends, turning in a two-hit, 10-strikeout performance in the circle and recording a double and a single with two RBIs to lead Scarbourough to a 5-0 win over Messalonskee in the Class A softball state championship at Cony High School Saturday.
The state championship is the third in five years for Scarborough.
Hannan got the scoring started for the Red Storm when her fifth inning double to the left-center field gap drove in sophomore pinch runner Paige Moore-Haskell to put Scarborough up 1-0.
The Red Storm scored two more in the fifth after Hannan’s double. Two batters later junior Abby Rutt singled to left to drive in Hannan, and sophomore Erin Giles doubled to left the next at-bat to bring around Rutt.
Sacarborough tacked up two more insurance runs in the top of the sixth when senior Lauren Aceto drove in sophomore Grace Farnkoff — who was hit by a pitch earlier in the inning — with a single — and Hannan drove in Aceto with a single to put give the Red Storm a 5-0 lead.
Rutt finished with two singles, and freshman Alyssa Williamson roped a line-drive single to right in the fourth.
Messalonskee senior Tatiana Vogel broke up Hannan’s no-hitter in the fourth with a double, and freshman Kylee Knight had a single in the sixth for the Eagle’s other hit.
