BOURNE, Mass. — Sen. John Kerry is the commencement speaker for graduating cadets at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy.

The state’s senior senator has been working this year with the academy’s president, Adm. Richard Gurnon, and Navy Secretary Ray Mabus to bring Naval ROTC to the Cape Cod school.

Also speaking at Saturday’s commencement is author and swordfishing captain Linda Greenlaw, who will deliver the charge to the class. Greenlaw, of Isle au Haut, Maine, first drew national attention as a survivor of the 1991 “Perfect Storm” nor’easter that was the subject of a book and movie.

Kerry and Greenlaw are among those receiving honorary doctorates at the commencement.
