Milford town manager resigns

By Dawn Gagnon, BDN Staff

MIILFORD, Maine — Town Manager Barbara Cox tendered her resignation Wednesday, effective Aug. 12.

While Cox declined to comment on the matter Thursday, she stated the following in her letter of resignation: “The results of last night’s election indicate … the Town’s dissatisfaction with the route upon which the town has traveled recently. To use a nautical analogy, as the Captain of this ship, I must accept responsibility for this dissatisfaction.”

Though the town’s website indicates that Diane Lacadie and Douglas Libby were elected to the Board of Selectmen in Tuesday’s town elections, Cox did not say the election was a factor in her planned departure.

In her letter, Cox thanked the board for the opportunity to serve the community.

“I believe we have accomplished much, although there is still work to do here. I have learned much and made many friends,” she wrote.

Cox initially came to Milford as interim town manager in 2007. She succeeded former manager Ruth Peters, whose contract was not renewed after she served in the position for one year.
