BIDDEFORD, Maine — A foundation created by former first lady Barbara Bush is set to award $385,000 in grants supporting family literacy in Maine.
Bush will be at the J. Richard Martin Community Center in Biddeford on Wednesday to award grants to two organizations from The Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy.
She’ll be joined by Maine first lady Ann LePage, Becky Dyer of the Bush foundation’s Maine Family Literacy Initiative and guest student speaker Kayla Trumble of Sanford.
Grants are awarded on a competitive basis to nonprofit organizations, correctional institutions, homeless shelters, schools, libraries and community- and faith-based agencies. The foundation has awarded over $40 million to 902 family literacy programs in 50 states.
