HANCOCK, Maine — An Ellsworth High School teacher has been chosen to be the new top administrator at the local grammar school.

Jennifer Vose, who teaches science in Ellsworth, will become the principal at Hancock Grammar School on July 1, RSU 24 Superintendent Wayne Enman said Tuesday.

Vose will take over for outgoing principal Mike Hammer, who is leaving to become superintendent of SAD 29 in Houlton.

Enman said Vose has been a teacher leader at Ellsworth High School, volunteering for new training opportunities and then passing that training on to her colleagues. He said that, prior to teaching at Ellsworth High School, Vose taught seventh and eighth grades at Blue Hill Consolidated School.

“She has been very involved in initiating change at the [high] school,” Enman said. “The interview committee was tremendously impressed.”

Enman said Hancock Grammar School had approximately 260 pupils at the end of this past academic year. He said Vose will begin the transition early so she can overlap with Hammer at the grammar school before they both officially start in their new positions.

“It’s a great school, and she’s excited for the opportunity,” Enman said.

Attempts Tuesday afternoon to contact Vose at the high school were unsuccessful.
