Brewer residents approve school budget

By Nok-Noi Ricker, Special to the BDN

BREWER, Maine — City residents resoundingly endorsed the $19.6 million school budget during Tuesday’s thumbs up-thumbs down referendum vote.

Of the 163 votes tallied, 134, or 82 percent, supported the school budget, with only 29 voting against it, according to unofficial election results provided by City Clerk Howard Kroll.

“The voter turnout was extremely poor with only 2.2 percent” of the city’s 7,135 registered voters participating, he said.

Kroll thanked the election staff, especially Deputy City Clerk Pam Ryan, for their help with making the election process run smoothly.
