July 4th fireworks

BANGOR, Maine — Again this year, the public is being asked support the fireworks display on the Fourth of July along the banks of the Penobscot River.

The Bangor Fourth of July Corp. is a nonprofit arm of area Kiwanis Clubs, which work to put on the city’s celebration. Tony Bernatche, corporation president, said the city has contributed some $5,000 toward the 2011 display by Central Maine Pyrotechnics of Hallowell. The goal is to have 40 percent more fireworks than last year, he said.

The corporation is soliciting local business owners and individuals to raise $25,000. Send checks to Bangor Fourth of July Corp., P.O. Box 2712, Bangor, ME 04402-2712.

The Bangor Daily News publishes an update on Wednesdays showing the total donated and the amount left to be raised.
