Woman injured in single-vehicle MDI crash

By Bill Trotter, BDN Staff

BAR HARBOR, Maine — A local woman was injured in a single-vehicle accident Monday afternoon on Crooked Road, according to police.

Officer Timothy Frost of the Bar Harbor Police Department said Monday that Patricia Krevans, 84, was driving a 2002 Subaru east on the road around 3:30 p.m. when the vehicle went off the opposite side of the road. The car snapped a guy wire attached to a utility pole, causing the pole to tilt low over the roadway, Frost said.

Krevans was transported by ambulance to Mount Desert Island Hospital with a “moderate” head injury, the officer said. A LifeFlight helicopter initially was called to the scene but later was called off by emergency personnel, he said. Krevans was wearing a seat belt during the accident, the officer said.

Frost said it was not clear why Krevans went off the road, but said driver inattention might be a factor. He said the accident was still under investigation.

The Subaru is considered a complete loss, according to the officer. Traffic was slowed for about an hour as emergency responders closed one lane of traffic so a wrecker could remove Krevans’ car from the ditch and then as Bangor Hydro repaired the damaged pole, he said.
