Sullivan mooring program scheduled for June 15

SULLIVAN, Maine — The Sullivan-Sorrento Historical Society will present its first program of the summer, “Your Mooring — A Lobster Habitat?” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, in the Sorrento Sullivan Recreation Center on Route 1. Stewart Hardison and University of Maine professors will introduce an environmentally sound mooring which provides habitat for developing lobsters.

Before the presentation, historical society members will hold their annual meeting at 6:30 pm. Refreshments will be available after the program. For more information, call 422-0995.

Duck Cove Group to meet June 14

BUCKSPORT, Maine — The Duck Cove Group of Maine Extension Homemaker’s Council will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 14, at True Value to carpool to the Craig Brook Fish Hatchery. A tour and picnic is planned; bring a box lunch and beverage. For more information, call 469-2805.

Photo exhibit on tap in Belfast

BELFAST, Maine — Back to Basics, an all-black-and-white photography exhibit featuring the human back opening reception will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 17, at Galerie Dufour in Belfast. The exhibit will run through July 14.

Back to Basics is the first of 5 exhibitions that will complete Galerie Dufour’s 8th year in Belfast. The remaining 2011 themed exhibits are: Clothed Nudes, July 15-August 11; Dreams and Dreamers, August 12-September 6; Sticks and Stones, September 7-October 3 and Coastal Curves 2011, October 4-Thanksgiving. This year, Dufour is also one of the members of Art Space Gallery in Rockland, boasting 19 artists of various artistic genres.

Series to focus on the state of oceans

WINTER HARBOR, Maine —The Schoodic Series: The State of the Oceans will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, at the Moore Auditorium on the campus of the Schoodic Education and Research Center, Acadia National Park, in Winter Harbor.

Gary Davis, retired National Park Service chief scientist for ocean programs, will present a program on how changes in the oceans over the past four decades have affected our understanding and management of marine resources. Brooksville church to hold lunch

BROOKSVILLE, Maine — The Jolly Helpers of the West Brooksville Congregational Church, UCC will serve a lunch at noon Tuesday, June 22, in the church vestry at 1597 Coastal Road in West Brooksville. Belfast library to host annual book sale

BELFAST, Maine — The Friends of the Belfast Free Library will hold its annual book sale beginning 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 22. Friends members may purchase books at a 10% discount on this day. The sale continues from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday, June 23-24, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 25, at the library.

Offered for sale this year are books of all types for all ages.
