EAST MILLINOCKET, Maine ― One of the town’s biggest yard sales will run from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 11, and will help town firefighters pay for smoke detectors and their high school scholarship program, they said Friday.
Several hundred items, everything from exercise equipment to household utilities, will be on sale for low prices, firefighters said.
The firefighters sell smoke detectors to residents who need them during firefighter inspections held on Fire Prevention Week and at other times. Firefighters go door-to-door during the week to help promote fire safety, they said.
Their scholarship program raises several hundred dollars for the department’s junior firefighter program for those who plan to attend firefighter training schools or other secondary education institutions.
