Orono Bog Boardwalk to host yard sale

ORONO, Maine — Orono Bog Boardwalk volunteers will host their 8th annual yard sale from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 18, at 139 Main St. in Orono, with a rain date of Sunday, June 19. This event raises funds necessary to operate and maintain the boardwalk.

Those wishing to make last minute donations to the Orono Bog Boardwalk Yard Sale may email or call 866-2578 to arrange drop-off or pick-up. Computers, monitors, TVs, microwave ovens, mattresses, kitchen stoves, refrigerators or freezers cannot be accepted. Also, because of disposal costs for broken or unusable items, make sure that all donated articles are in good condition.

Photo workshop in Holden

HOLDEN, Maine — Learn the basics of photography with professional photographer Andy Anderson from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 25, at Fields Pond Audubon Center in Holden.  Learn what to adjust, how to adjust, and why we adjust images. Adjustments common to most photo-processing software will be discussed. Bring a few photoson a card and lunch.

The cost of the workshop is $25 for members and $30 for nonmembers. Advance registration and payment required. For more information, call 989-2591.

Bangor Hydro schedules interruption of service

HOWLAND, Maine — Bangor Hydro has announced a planned power outage from 3 to 5 a.m. Wednesday, June 15, affecting customers in and around Howland, Medford and Edinburg. This is a necessary interruption to enable an upgrade of the Howland substation in the safest possible manner. For more information, call 947-2414.

Operation Cookie Drop scheduled for June 14

BANGOR, Maine — The Girl Scouts of Maine, through Operation Cookie Drop, has 44,000 boxes of cookies that will be delivered to troops at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, at the Maine Air National Guard Base, 505 Maineiac Ave. in Bangor.  During the 2011 Girl Scout cookie sale, the public helped purchase cookies to donate to the men and women serving in the U.S. armed forces.
