BANGOR, Maine — Rep. Mike Michaud is joining a Pennsylvania lawmaker in calling on Anthony Weiner to resign for sending a lewd photo of himself to a woman on Twitter.

Michaud, D-Maine, said Wednesday he hopes the New York congressman will do what’s right for his family “and probably the best decision would be to step down.”

Earlier, Rep. Allyson Schwartz of Pennsylvania became the first Democratic member of Congress to call on Weiner to step down.

Michaud’s Democratic colleague, Rep. Chellie Pingree, isn’t joining the call for Weiner to resign. She says the House is investigating whether he broke rules, and she says it’s up to the people of Weiner’s congressional district to decide whether they want to keep him.
