Swanky Conn. town investigates big cat sightings

The Associated Press

GREENWICH, Conn. — Police in Greenwich, Conn., more accustomed to sightings of wheeled Jaguars, are investigating reports that some type of big cat is roaming the wealthy town.

Police tell the Greenwich Time that there have been three sightings of a large cat in the last week. The most recent came Sunday near the Brunswick School, a prep school where faculty members reported seeing a mountain lion on Sunday.

Town conservation officer Denise Savageau says that’s unlikely, because there have been no mountain lions in the area for over a century, except for those that have escaped from owners who were keeping them illegally.

State environmental officials say it could just be a coyote or even a bobcat, which are sometimes mistaken for the bigger mountain lions.
