Navy sending USS John L. Hall to Bucksport for July festival

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Navy has committed to sending the USS John L. Hall to Bucksport during the 2011 Bucksport Bay Festival July 29-31, U.S. Sen. Susan Collins announced Wednesday.

Collins wrote to the Navy last October to request the visit.

“Maine is home to many supporters of the U.S. Navy, and I am delighted that the Navy has agreed to my request to honor our state with this port visit,” Collins said in a prepared statement.

The USS John L. Hall was built at Bath Iron Works and launched on July 24, 1981.

The Navy has also agreed to send ships to Boothbay Harbor during Windjammer Days later this month, to Eastport for the July 4th celebration and to Rockland during the Maine Lobster Festival in August.
