Man charged in Farmington shooting to make initial court appearance

AUGUSTA, Maine — A 23-year-old man charged with manslaughter in the shooting death of a friend is making his initial court appearance in Maine.

Ryan Ouimet of Colts Neck, N.J., was scheduled to appear Wednesday afternoon in Franklin County Superior Court in Farmington. He is charged in the death of 23-year-old Andrew Holland of Cape Elizabeth.

Ouimet and Holland were friends who graduated last month from the University of Maine at Farmington and were working this summer as cooks at the Old Post Office Cafe in nearby Mount Vernon.

The shooting took place at about 10:30 p.m. May 31 when a handgun owned by Ouimet went off inside a friend’s High Street apartment in Farmington, near the university.

Ouimet is free on $10,000 bail.
