PORT CLYDE, Maine — The Port Clyde-Herring Gut Learning Center will host a two-day workshop on hobby scale aquaponics from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 16, and Sunday, July 17, at the Herring Gut Professional Institute.
The workshop is for anyone who’d like to learn more about aquaponics and for those interested in setting up a small system for personal use. Hands-on activities will take place in the Herring Gut tilapia hatchery, greenhouse and classroom.

Castine tree tour planned
CASTINE, Maine — The University of Maine Cooperative Extension will host a tour of Castine’s historical trees from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, June 17, at the post office on Main St.
Jan Ames Santerre with the Maine Forest Service will lead a tour of historic elms and other noteworthy trees found in Castine. The event is free and open to the public with registration requested.

Trash From The Sea Art Challenge
LUBEC, Maine — Lubec will host its second annual Trash from the Sea Art Challenge this summer.
Trash from the beaches should be turned into art that is beautiful, useful, or conveys the message of what man-made marine debris is doing to oceans and their occupants. Artists need not be Lubec residents. The entry fee for the competition is a bag of trash picked from Maine beaches.
Participants should bring their art to the Info Stop at 135 Main St. before Sept. 28, or preferably to the Mulholland Gallery at 50 Water St. between 10 a.m. and noon Wednesday, September 28.

Public baked bean supper in Lubec
LUBEC, Maine — A public baked bean supper will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, June 18, at the West Lubec United Methodist Church. Supper price is $7 for adults and $3 for children under 12. Menu includes beans, salads, casseroles and cream cakes. All are welcome.
50th annual Forth of July celebration in Grand Lake Stream
GRAND LAKE STREAM, Maine — Grand Lake Stream will hold its 50th annual Fourth of July celebration Monday, July 4.
The day’s activities will include games in the park for children, a three-mile race, frog races, blueberry pie eating contest, tubing on the stream, and a parade.
There also will be a food tent and all-day entertainment.
