Veilleux leads Hermon baseball by Gardiner

HERMON —  Cody Veilleux outdueled Spencer Allen and Tyler Fournier doubled home the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the sixth as seventh-seeded Hermon nipped 10th-seeded Gardiner 1-0 in an Eastern Maine Class B baseball prelim Tuesday.

Hermon is now 12-5 while Gardiner finished up at 11-6. The Hawks advanced to an EM quarterfinal on Thursday at Ellsworth

Veilleux tossed a two-hitter, striking out 11 and walking one, while Allen allowed four hits with four strikeouts and no walks.

The only run off Allen was unearned.

Logan Trembley led off the sixth by reaching on an infield error before Reid McGinley sacrificed him to second.

One out later, Fournier lined his opposite-field double to left center.

Hermon’s Will Perkins, Zach Pond and McGinley all singled as did Gardiner’s Brandon Chaput and Josh Ouellette.
