OLD TOWN, Maine — An Old Town woman was arrested late last month after she allegedly stole two bottles of Vicodin from another woman’s purse at the Old Town Orono YMCA.

Ashley Caswell, 22, was charged with stealing drugs, a Class C felony, and taken to Penobscot County Jail, Old Town police Sgt. Michael Hashey said Tuesday night. She since has been released on bail, he said.

Hashey said the incident that led to Caswell’s arrest occurred on May 26, when a woman who was at the YMCA reported that a “large quantity” of prescription medication was missing from her purse. The woman told police she believed that the drugs were taken by Caswell, who also was at the YMCA that day.

Hashey said police found Caswell walking on Main Street later that day. Officer Ryan Fitch spoke with her and she admitted to taking the drugs and said that she had taken them to her residence, Hashey said.

Caswell later took Fitch to her residence and retrieved a backpack, which contained 105 pills, Hashey said.
