LINCOLNVILLE, Maine — Tanglewood and  Blueberry Cove 4-H Camp and Learning Centers are offering expanded day camp and wilderness discovery trips this summer for youth.

“Last year was a banner year for Tanglewood and Blueberry Cove,” says Jessica Decke, Tanglewood camp director, “and we’re going to build on that so that we have more fun, learn more, and make a bigger difference in the world.”

Tanglewood’s programs strive to create, for kids and adults, a “better understanding of the natural world.”

Day camps at Tanglewood in Lincolnville will be adding food, garden and baking programs, canoeing and camp-out opportunities; before and after care options are available for working parents, too. Tanglewood has also expanded the age ranges of some sessions for youth ages 4 to 14.

Blueberry Cove has expanded their shuttle bus pick-ups to include Camden-Rockport, Union, Rockland, Thomaston and South Thomaston. At Blueberry Cove there also will be part-day sailing and nature-based activities.

Discovery Trips at Tanglewood and Blueberry Cove include backpacking on the Appalachian Trail, ocean canoeing and island hopping, exploring local ponds and mountains within Camden Hills State Park, Sailing on Norton Pond, and a venture to Horse Power Farm in Bluehill to learn more about farming in rural Maine. These trips are for youth ages 10 to 15 and are open to a range of skill levels. Gear is provided by the camp, so have only to show up ready for a good challenge and fun.

The camps run from June 26 through Aug. 19. There also are residential camps for youth ages 8 to 4 and leadership programs for teens 13 to 17. Camp tuition is on a sliding scale with discounts for multiple sessions or siblings and scholarships for families who apply.
