Author Rob McCall to give reading at Blue Hill library

BLUE HILL, Maine — Local preacher, author, naturalist and radio commentator Rob McCall will read from his new book “Great Speckled Bird” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, at the Blue Hill Public Library.

“Great Speckled Bird” has not yet been formally published, with only a handful of paper copies available to borrow from the Blue Hill Library. Additional books will be available for order in both paper and digital formats at the event. For information, call 374-5515.

Movie, TV series to finish June 16 in Blue Hill

BLUE HILL, Maine — The Friends of the Blue Hill Public Library’s Rarely Shown on TV, Must See Movie Series will finish at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 16 with Hugh Hudson’s Academy Awar-winning film “Chariots of Fire,” in the library’s Howard Room. The film is based on the true story of two British track athletes competing in the 1924 Summer Olympics. One is a devout Scottish missionary who “runs for God,” the other is a Jewish student at Cambridge who runs for fame and to escape prejudice. For information, call 374-5515.

Blue Hill talk to focus on furniture restoration

BLUE HILL, Maine — As part of the Blue Hill Public Library’s ongoing series “Making Ends Meet,” the library will host a talk and slide show by Joshua Klein of Klein Furniture Restoration at 10 a.m.  Saturday, June 18, at the library. Klein will show slides, talk about his work and give tips for people who would like to try it themselves.

This event is free and open to everyone. Participants may bring small items for evaluation by Joshua Klein, time permitting. For information, call 374-5515.
