Brunswick church heavily damaged by overnight fire

BRUNSWICK, Maine — Investigators from the Maine Fire Marshal’s office are going to be searching for the cause of a fire that heavily damaged a Brunswick church.

The fire at the Unitarian Universalist Church was reported at about 1 a.m. Monday.

Brunswick fire chief Ken Brillant says the fire spread to two floors on the backside of the church.

Brillant says the church was heavily damaged, although firefighters were able to recover a Bible handed down from poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

The church is about 200 years old.
