AUGUSTA, Maine — Two of Gov. Paul LePage’s cabinet nominees appear on their way to Senate confirmation.

The Legislature’s Committee on Labor, Commerce, Research and Economic Development on Thursday voted to endorse Robert Winglass of Bath for appointment as commissioner of Maine’s the Department of Labor.

Winglass retired from the U.S. Marines as a lieutenant general in 1992 and served four years in the Maine House before joining IBM Corp.

The same committee endorsed George Gervais of Hampden for commissioner of the Department of Economic and Community Development. Gervais has served as assistant commissioner of the department, and acting commissioner since April.

Other committees took up 10 other nominations to judicial posts, regulatory and board posts. Committee approval paves the way for likely Senate nomination.
