Baked bean supper to be served in Holden

HOLDEN, Maine — The Holden Congregational Church will hold a baked bean supper at 5 p.m. Saturday, June 11, at the church.  

The price for an evening of baked beans, casseroles and pies will be $7 for adults and $4 for children. For information, call 843-6402.

SAT practice exam offered in Bangor

BANGOR, Maine — Lucas Hubbard, John Bapst Memorial High School graduate, will offer a free SAT practice exam for high school sophomores, juniors and seniors from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 13, in the Bangor Public Library’s Board Room.  

Hubbard will follow up after the test is scored with suggestions on improving scores.

Bangor Public Library plans summer concert series

BANGOR, Maine — The 2011 Summer Music Series at the Bangor Public Library will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, with a traditional kick-off by the Bangor Band.

The library’s Summer Music Series offers free concerts every Wednesday evening, June through August, featuring programs for music lovers of all ages and tastes. Upcoming performers include Sam & Yuri, Mainely Country Band and Gilbert & Sullivan Society.

Aldo Leopold film to be shown in Bangor

BANGOR, Maine — The Peace & Justice Center of Eastern Maine and the Bangor Public Library will host two screenings of the film “Green Fire: Aldo Leopold and A Land Ethic Of Our Time” at 7 p.m. Monday, June 13, at the Peace and Justice Center, 96 Harlow St., and at noon Thursday, June 16, at the Bangor Public Library.

The film explores Leopold’s life in the early part of the 20th century and the many ways his land ethic idea continues to be applied all over the world today.
