Machias Memorial High School honor parts

Machias Memorial High School Principal Robert Hennessey has announced the honor parts for the Class of 2011. Commencement exercises will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, June 5, at Machias Memorial High School Gymnasium.

Samuel Whitney, son of Jean and Scott Whitney of Jonesboro, has been named valedictorian.  He plans to attend Husson University to study business with a concentration in marketing.

He was selected for the DAR Good Citizen Award, has been president of his class for four years, participated in the Early College Program and is president of the school’s National Honor Society.

Whitney has been active in sports, playing basketball, soccer and baseball during his four years at MMHS.

Heather Anderson, daughter of Kristi and Jeffery Anderson of Jonesboro, has been named salutatorian. She plans to attend the University of Maine in Orono to study in the New Media program.

She received a Maine Principal’s Award, participated in the Early College Program, the Maine Youth Leadership program, drama, Model State, Close Up and is vice president of the school’s National Honor Society. She participated in sports or served as a manager for various sports teams including cross country, basketball and baseball.
