Cape Elizabeth man dead, NJ man charged in fatal Farmington shooting

FARMINGTON, Maine — State and Farmington police have charged someone in the shooting death of a young man inside an apartment late Tuesday night.

Dead is Andrew Holland, 23, of Cape Elizabeth. Charged with elevated aggravated assault is 23-year-old Ryan Ouimet of Coltsneck, N.J.  Ouimet is being held at the Franklin County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.  

Police say the shooting occurred about 10:30 p.m. as the friends were inside the the High Street apartment of Caroline Halloran of Acton, Mass., also 23, when the handgun, owned by Ouimet, went off.  Holland was rushed by ambulance to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington, where he died.

A team of state police detectives joined Farmington police overnight investigating the circumstances and that work continued Wednesday. The gun will be taken to the state police crime lab for testing.

An autopsy on Holland’s body is scheduled Wednesday at the state medical examiner’s office in Augusta.

The three are graduates of the University of Maine at Farmington and were working together at a Mount Vernon restaurant this summer.
