BRUNSWICK — Third annual Taste of Brunswick, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, June 18, at Brunswick Town Mall. Seventeen local restaurants will showcase their specialties with food tastings, including chowder, sushi, Belgian waffles, Lobster Newburg, pulled pork, desserts and more. Music in the gazebo begins at 10:15 a.m. The Wait Staff Challenge, an obstacle course-style race featuring staff from participating restaurants who “wait” on local figureheads while maneuvering the race course, will hold prelims at noon and finals at 2:30 p.m. Advance tickets are available online or at The College Store, the Brunswick Downtown Association office, Midcoast Hunger Prevention office, Key Bank and the Brunswick Visitor Center at Brunswick Station. Tickets are $5 in advance or $7 at the gate; free for children 12 and younger. Food tickets will be sold in $1 increments at the event. A portion of the proceeds will support the Midcoast Hunger Prevention Program and the Brunswick Downtown Association. No pets or coolers allowed. For information, visit www.brunswickdowntown.org.

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Maine Whoopie Pie Festival, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, June 25, at 20 East Main St. It will feature whoopie pie eating contests, a music stage, street fair and hundreds of whoopie pies to sample for 25 cents each. ELLSWORTH — Celebrate Maine’s newly declared state treat, the whoopie pie, Saturday, June 18, at the Ellsworth Public Library, 20 State St. A whoopie pie baking contest for children and adults will be judged at 10 a.m., during which author Nancy Griffin will talk about her book “Making Whoopies: The Official Whoopie Pie Book.” There also will be a story and a whoopie pie-related craft for children. Registration for the baking contest closed June 11. Ribbons will be awarded to the top three adults and top three children. Whoopie pies will be sold for donations (minimum $1 for each treat) to benefit the Friends of the Ellsworth Public Library. For information or to sign up, call 667-6363.
