Rockport workshop to focus on Asian medicine

ROCKPORT, Maine  — “Enhancing the Immune System and Calming the Nervous System Using Asian Medicine” will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 9, at the Picker Family Resource Center on the Pen Bay Medical Center campus. Join Rhonda Feiman, licensed acupuncturist, for an experimental evening exploring how to maintain health and well-being through Japanese acupuncture and Chinese herbology. Cherryfield library to host Father’s Day cruise in Bar Harbor

BAR HARBOR  — The Cherryfield Free Public Library will host a special community cruise for Father’s Day at 4 p.m.  Sunday, June 19, on the Margaret Todd out of Bar Harbor. The event is a great Father’s Day gift and proceeds help the library. Participants are welcome to bring a picnic as part of the celebration. Talk, book signing slated in Bar Harbor

BAR HARBOR  — Author Tina Rosenberg will be at the Jesup Memorial Library for a talk and book signing of her award-winning novel “Glenapp Castle – A Scottish Intrigue” at 7 p.m. Friday, June 17, in Bar Harbor. “Glenapp Castle” recently won Honorable Mention in the category of Literary and Mainstream Fiction in the Writer’s Digest International Contest for self-published novels in 2010. Learn to create a rock garden in Surry

SURRY — The Surry Garden Club will hold its monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, at Rural Hall. The speaker is Allison Dibble of Brooklin. Her topic will be mosses and lichens, and how to create a rock garden using them. Everyone is welcome. Refreshments will be served.

Memorial concert series returns to Lubec June 22

LUBEC – The Mary Potterton Memorial Concert Series returns for another summer in Lubec beginning at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, upstairs in Lubec’s Congregational Christian Church. The opening series will host a concert by the new faculty member and organist, Richard McIntyre. The concert will open with a piece by Dietrich Buxtehude who recognized Denmark as his native country but taught organ in Lübeck, the northern German town from which Lubec takes its name, in 1668. Pet portraits to benefit kidney disease foundationP

ROCKLAND – Pet Quarters at Harbor Plaza in Rockland will host a Pet Photo Day from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday June 11, in Rockland. No appointment is necessary. For a $25 donation to the PKD Foundation, you can have a studio portrait of your pet created by a professional photographer. The PKD Foundation is the only charity devoted exclusively to finding a cure for polycystic kidney disease, a life-threatening genetic disorder affecting 600,000 Americans and 12.5 million people worldwide.
