Sumner Memorial High School releases honor parts

Sumner Memorial High School of Sullivan has announced the honor  parts for the graduating Class of 2011.

Helen Louise Conway, daughter of Julia Conway of Gouldsboro and of Walter Ludwig of Washington, D.C., has been named valedictorian for her class. She will attend Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., where she plans to major in government and minor in music.

She is a member of the National Honor Society, student council, band, chorus, show choir and jazz choir.  She has participated in soccer, cross country, and indoor and outdoor track, and has been involved with the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Maine.

During her junior year spring break, she traveled to Biloxi, Miss., to help with a Habitat for Humanity home construction. She is the recipient of the  2010 Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award and the  2010 College of the Atlantic Book Award.

Emily Tate Havey, daughter of Wayne and Julie Havey of Franklin, has been named salutatorian for her class. She will attend Husson University  where she will study occupational therapy.

She is a member of the National Honor Society and student council. She has participated in tennis, earning the Coach’s Award in 2009 and 2010.

Havey has been the storytime organizer for younger children at the Franklin Town Library and has been a member of the Puppet Pals program through Downeast Health Services, delivering messages to younger children about bullying and being a good friend.

Elliot Ossanna, son of Peter Ossanna of Bar Harbor and of Anne Ossanna of Franklin, has been named first honor essayist for his class. He will attend the Honors College at the University of Maine in Orono with a major in mathematics.

Nicklaus Carter, son of Michael Carter of Ellsworth and of Hedi Boulay of Franklin, has been named second honor essayist for his class. He will attend the University of Maine Orono with a major in chemical engineering.
