Weather service issues strong thunderstorm advisory

CARIBOU, Maine — The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather advisory about possible strong thunderstorms affecting parts of the state on Friday and overnight into Saturday.

The advisory area includes intracoastal waters from Schoodic Point to Stonington, central and southern Piscataquis and Penobscot counties, interior and coastal Hancock and Washington counties as well as much of southern Maine.

The advisory states showers and embedded thunderstorms will develop across much of central and southern Maine Friday afternoon. A few storms may include rainfall rates of one inch per hour and winds gusting to 40 miles per hour. Small hail is possible amid some of the storms.
