Public’s help sought to fund Bangor July 4th fireworks

BANGOR, Maine — As in years past, the public is being asked to help pay for the annual fireworks display on July 4 along the banks of the Penobscot River.

The Bangor 4th of July Corp. is a nonprofit arm of the Bangor area Kiwanis Clubs which work to put on the city’s celebration. Tony Bernatche, the corporation’s president, said the City of Bangor this year has contributed approximately $5,000 toward the display, which will be provided by Central Maine Pyrotechnics of Hallowell. The goal is to offer a show that includes 40 percent more fireworks than last year, Bernatche said. To accomplish that goal, the corporation is soliciting local business owners and individuals to raise $25,000.

Please make checks out to Bangor 4th of July Corp., P.O. Box 2712, Bangor, ME 04402-2712

The Bangor Daily News will publish an update every Wednesday in June showing the total donated and the amount remaining to be raised.
