Teaching children to save
CAMDEN — Camden National Bank employees visited 34 schools, Head Start programs and Girl Scout troops as part of the 15th annual Teach Children to Save Day. So far this year, Camden National employees have taught a total of 1,148 students throughout Maine about the importance of saving money.
Teach Children to Save was conceived in 1997 by the American Bankers Association. The national program partners banks with local schools to work with students and teach them about saving money and fiscal responsibility.
Classroom topics vary depending on grade level, ranging from pre-kindergarten to 12th grade. Lesson plans focus on a variety of topics, such as how banks work, how interest makes money grow, budgeting, earning money, filling out deposit slips and balancing checkbooks.
Camden National also sponsors the Camden National Bank Financial Scholars Program in several local high schools.
