Scotty McCreery put the North Carolina town of Garner on the map. Now, the town is thinking of putting the places where the latest “American Idol” went to school, worked and prayed on a map as well. A Michigan family went out of its way to stop in Garner on the way home from Myrtle Beach, S.C., at the behest of the teenage daughter, the town’s spokesman said Thursday, one day after McCreery won the Fox television talent search. In addition, town officials are hearing anecdotal stories of people wanting to see McCreery’s hangouts for themselves. The map would include Garner Magnet High School, where McCreery is still a junior; First Baptist Church, which McCreery and his family attend; Lowe’s Food Store, where McCreery worked as a cashier and bagger; the Garner Historic Auditorium, one of the first places McCreery sang in public; and Lake Benson Park, where McCreery performed a couple of weeks ago when “Idol” whittled down the contestants to the final three. McCreery, 17, defeated 16-year-old Lauren Alaina of Rossville, Ga., another country crooner. It was the first all-country finale in “Idol” history, and the contestants were the youngest ever to compete for the title. … Lindsay Lohan returned to a women’s jail before dawn on Thursday and was released before rush hour to begin serving a four-month jail sentence at her home for a probation violation. The actress left the lockup with an ankle monitor that she must wear for about 35 days, a sheriff’s spokesman said. The term is longer than the three weeks or less that Lohan would have spent in a solitary confinement unit at the jail, where she served 14 days last summer for another probation violation. A Superior Court Judge sentenced Lohan to 120 days in jail and 480 hours of community service in April after determining the actress took a necklace without permission from a store near her home. The judge said at a hearing that if Lohan served time under house arrest, she could not leave to whittle down her community service hours at a women’s shelter and the county morgue. Lohan pleaded no contest earlier this month to misdemeanor grand theft but did not receive additional jail time.
