ALFRED, Maine — A 36-year-old Biddeford man is going to jail for nine months after pleading guilty to violating the Maine Civil Rights Act.

Adam Goodwin pleaded guilty Thursday in York County Superior Court to assault, interference with constitutional and civil rights, and violation of a civil rights injunction.

Attorney General William Schneider said Goodwin in December made a racially derogatory comment toward a black man who was with a white woman at Rapid Ray’s Diner in Saco and then punched the man in the head when he turned away.

At the time, Goodwin was under an injunction resulting from a 2008 assault against a Jewish man that was motivated by anti-Semitism.
