ELLSWORTH, Maine — Celebrate Maine’s newly declared state treat, the whoopie pie, Saturday, June 18, at the Ellsworth Public Library, 20 State St. Nonprofessional adults and children ages 6-14 are invited to compete in the Whoopie Pie Baking Contest. Registrations will be accepted through Saturday, June 11. Participants will deliver 13 individually wrapped whoopie pies to the library’s Riverview Room between 9 and 9:45 a.m. on the day of the event. Participants must include their recipe on a 3-by-5-inch card with name and phone number on the back. Judging will begin at 10 a.m. During the judging, patrons are invited to the main floor where author Nancy Griffin will talk about her book “Making Whoopies: the Official Whoopie Pie Book.” Outside, children will be treated to a story and may participate in a whoopie pie related craft. Ribbons will be awarded to the top three adults and top three children at approximately 10:45 a.m. Whoopie pies will be sold for donations (minimum $1 for each whoopie pie) to benefit the Friends of the Ellsworth Public Library. WINTER HARBOR, Maine — Summer luncheon featuring fare from The Crocker House to benefit Schoodic Arts for All at noon, Friday, July 15, at Historic Hammond Hall, Main Street.
