Pirate Rendezvous to benefit local children

DAMARISCOTTA  — Re-enactors from throughout New England will converge on Lincoln County Saturday, June 11, to participate in the fourth annual Pirate Rendezvous, a fundraiser for the Lincoln County Family Holiday Wishes food and gift drive. Lincoln County Family Holiday Wishes provided more than 500 children in 2010 with Christmas dinners and gifts.

In-town Participating Sponsors offer discounts for food and retail items during and after the event.

Additional support is provided by members of the Damariscotta Baptist Church, which hosts a Buccaneer Feast the night before and a Pirate Pancake Breakfast the morning of the Pirate Rendezvous. Both events also are open to the public.

Re-enactor groups expected to take part are the Black Rose II Privateers based in New Hampshire and surrounding states; and the Ancient Ones, the Sea Scouts and the Dark Rose Pirates, based in Maine. Pirate belly-dancing groups Ivey Grey and the Barbary Blades of New Hampshire and the Paradigm crew from Maine will perform.

At the Pirate Rendezvous, everyone will become a member of the Mystic Pirates o’ the Damariscotta — including hundreds of costumed children, who will all seek treasure hidden somewhere in Damariscotta.

A Pirate Bazaar at the riverside Schooner Landing Restaurant and Marina will feature themed retail stands and daylong music and entertainment. Children will enjoy a variety of games at the Kid’s Pirate Camp on Water Street. Both of venues open at 10 a.m.
