BELFAST, Maine — A man accused of being the hub of a series of burglaries in western Waldo County was one of 39 people indicted last week by the Waldo County Grand Jury.

Billy Joe Hall, 24, of Brooks was charged Friday with 13 counts of burglary, 17 counts of theft by unauthorized taking, six counts of criminal mischief and four counts of aggravated criminal mischief.

Police said he and four other men broke into camps, homes and buildings beginning in 2010 to steal metal, vehicles and firearms among other objects. Although police had arrested the other four suspects in Maine by mid-February, Hall was still on the lam and authorities asked for the public’s help in finding him.

He was tracked down in Texas in March after police received an anonymous call saying he was working at an auto parts store there.

Another alleged participant in the burglaries — Smith Leroy Bickford, Jr., 48, of Jackson — also was charged by the grand jury on May 27 of burglary of a motor vehicle and four counts of theft by unauthorized taking.
