LEBANON, Maine — A group of guys with giant trucks celebrated Maine’s mud season by getting dirty.

Organizer Kurt Zeller said a week of rain created plenty of mud and that participants adopted the attitude “If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em.” The event dubbed “Spring Muddervention” was being held Sunday on his property in the town of Lebanon in southern Maine.

About 70 off-road trucks were participating in events in three 200-foot-long mud pits.

Events included drag racing in shallow mud as well as other events aimed at testing the ability of trucks to handle deep mud without getting stuck. Zeller said one bonus from all the recent rain is that there was little need to pump in water.
