BANGOR – Maine writer Ardeana Hamlin will read from and sign copies of her new novel, “Abbott’s Reach,” at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, June 9, at the Bangor Public Library, 145 Harlow St. For information, call 947-8336.

BELFAST – “as if” stories, an ongoing series of readings of short stories by Maine writers performed by Maine actors, 7 p.m. Saturday, June 11, at Aarhus Gallery, 50 Main St. The evening will feature three short stories: “She Loved to Cook but Not Like This” by Brock Clarke, read by Morten Hansen; “Slow Monkeys” by Jim Nichols, read by Dennis Harrington; and “Officer Friendly” by Lewis Robinson, read by Nathan Raleigh. CAMDEN – Reading and reception with Pulitzer Prize-winning and New York Times bestselling author Elizabeth Strout, 4-6 p.m. Sunday, June 5, at The Rockport Opera House.
