HOULTON, Maine — Marty Bouchard, principal of Houlton High School, has announced the honor parts for the Class of 2011.
Marina R. DiMarco, daughter of Steve and Mary Beth DiMarco of Houlton, has been named valedictorian of her class. She will attend Middlebury College to study international politics and economics.
She is a member of the National Honor Society, has served as class secretary and is a senior class vice president. She is a member of the student council and has attended Maine YMCA Youth in Government, serving as a senator and commissioner of natural resources. DiMarco is a recipient of the Maine Principals’ Association Principal’s Award, the Princeton Book Award and the Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award.
DiMarco is a four-year member of the symphonic band, trumpet and French horn soloist and section leader, chamber choir, Off Beat Percussion Ensemble, jazz band soloist and section leader and received the individual Outstanding Musicianship Award for 2011 at the state jazz band competition. She has participated in the All-Aroostook Band as soloist and section leader, All-State Chorus, Show Choir and the fall musicals. She has also served as the varsity tennis team manager.
She has won many awards as a member of the United States Pony Clubs and the Meduxnekeag River Pony Club where she is an upper level member, instructor and horse show and clinic organizer.
Tyler J. Delano, son of Dana Delano and Julie Delano of Houlton, has been named salutatorian of his class. He will be attending the University of Connecticut and will major in business administration.
He is president of the National Honor Society and has been on the Academic Decathlon Team. Delano attended Dirigo Boys’ State, where he was named a State Samsung Scholar, and has served as treasurer and president of the student council. He has also served as treasurer and vice-president of his class and was a second place Science Fair finalist.
Delano received the Frederick Douglass–Susan B. Anthony Citizenship Award and was named student of the month for citizenship and school contributions. He has participated in the youth in government program, the Civil Rights Club and was a Rotary Youth Exchange Student.
He is a member of the chamber choir, show choir where he received Best Male Vocalist Award at the State Show Choir Competition, jazz band, percussion ensemble, symphonic band, All-State Chorus, All-Aroostook Chorus and has had the lead role in the fall musical.
Delano is a four-year member of the varsity tennis team, serving as team captain for two years. He is also active in his church youth group.
Tanner B. Caron, son of Ricky Caron and Linda Bellisle of Houlton, is first honor essayist. He has been accepted at the University of Maine at Orono in the Explorations Program.
Gaige P. Flewellling, son of Harold and Aimee Flewelling of Houlton, is second honor essayist. He will attend the University of Maine at Fort Kent in the nursing program.
