Suspect in Orrington hit-and-run found passed out in Bangor

By Dawn Gagnon, BDN Staff

BANGOR, Maine — A suspect in a hit-and-run accident Tuesday evening in Orrington reportedly was found passed out in her car in Bangor a few hours later.

Kimberly Chadbourne, 43, now faces charges of drunken driving as well as leaving the scene of a property damage accident, according to police from Bangor and the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department.

The trouble began about 7 p.m. when Chadbourne allegedly backed into another vehicle at Snow’s Corner Mobil on the Run in Orrington, causing more than $1,000 in damage, and then drove off without contacting the other vehicle’s driver or police, county sheriff’s Deputy Chad Young said Wednesday.

A witness jotted down the license plate number of the car involved in the hit-and-run crash and provided it to police, Young said. He said that a clerk at the Orrington gas station and convenience store indicated that Chadbourne did not appear intoxicated when she stopped there early Tuesday evening.

About 10:30 that night, however, Bangor police were called to check out a car that had been parked on Harlow Street, near Kenduskeag Stream, for about an hour.

When he arrived, Officer Kevin Murphy found Chadbourne lying on the floor of her car, unresponsive, Millard said, citing a police report.

The report indicated that Chadbourne’s head appeared to be stuck near the brake pedal, Millard said. He also said that her dog was in the car with her.

Murphy then called for an ambulance.

“Just before it arrived, she came to,” Millard said.

Chadbourne was charged after a medical examination.

Millard said a half-empty 750-milliliter bottle of Premium Popov vodka was found in Chadbourne’s car. He also said that tests indicated that her blood alcohol level was 0.35, more than quadruple the legal driving limit.
