PORTLAND, Maine — Maine police investigating the death of a Portland woman say a man has come forward to say he dumped her body in Northport after she died from a drug overdose.

Portland Police Chief James Craig said Tuesday that Nathaniel Pete Mincher of Saco informed investigators in February about the death of 24-year-old Elena Lozada, who was reported missing in July. A search failed to find the body in February, but searchers returned and found her remains in April.

Craig said the case remains active, and he made a public appeal for information on Lozada and Mincher. The case is being treated as a suspicious death, and no one has been charged.

Police said the 36-year-old Mincher came forward with his story after York County deputies investigated a disabled vehicle complaint.
