Water Walk set for Monday in Bangor

BANGOR, Maine — Members of the Student Environmental Action Committee at John Bapst Memorial High School will participate in a Water Walk at 11:15 a.m. Monday, May 23.

Twenty-six students will walk from the school on Broadway down around the Margaret Chase Federal Building and Bangor Public Library, through downtown to Aubuchon

Hardware, along the river to Eastern Maine Medical Center, back down State Street and return to the school.

The purpose of the walk, said SEAC representative D.J. Brooks, is “to raise public awareness about our larger community Water Walk to occur on Sept. 25. All proceeds from the Water Walk in September will go to benefit the BARKA Foundation.

“This organization works with the people of Burkina Faso, Africa, to try to increase their quality of lives,” Brooks said. “Specifically, this money would go to help build and repair wells, as well as to help fund programs to teach proper sanitation to the Burkinabe.”
