River friends to honor animal orphange


OLD TOWN — The Friends of the River Coalition will honor an outstanding community organization – The Old Town-Orono Animal Orphanage — at their annual recognition dinner and program at 5:30 p.m. Friday, May 20, at the Old Town Knights of Columbus Hall. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased in advance by calling Doris Seger at 827-2829 or Carol May at 478-9012. Tickets also may be purchased at The Penobscot Times office.

Bangor church to hold sales, auction, raffles

BANGOR — The Apostolic Lighthouse Church will host a bake sale, craft fair, silent auction, yard sale and raffles from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 4, at the church, 527 Hammond St. in Bangor. To rent a table for $20 call James Gallagher at 570-8107.

P.E.T.S. perennial plant sale rescheduled to June 11

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The P.E.T.S. Perennial plant sale scheduled for later this month has been rescheduled for 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, June 11, at the Dover-Foxcroft fire station.

The sale helps the organization’s mission of reducing overpopulation and abandonment of companion animals through its reduced-cost spay and neuter program. All donations are tax-deductible.

Anyone wishing to donate perennial plants should call Phyllis at 564-8072 or Mary at 564-8092 to arrange for dropoff or pickup.

P.E.T.S. will hold its annual yard sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 25, at the Dover-Foxcroft fire station. The organization is looking for household items, furniture in good condition and collectibles.

AARP driver safety program offered at Mayo hospital

DOVER-FOXCROFT— Mayo Regional Hospital’s Seniority program will offer the AARP driver safety program from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, May 27, in the Mayo Resource Center’s Sebec-Borestone conference rooms.

The $17 fee includes lunch and AARP members receive a $2 discount with their membership card. The program teaches defensive driving techniques, new traffic laws and rules of the road. Course participants may be eligible to receive an insurance discount. Registration is limited.

For more information or to register, call Lil Smith at 564-4427. Payment will be at the door and checks should be made out to MRH Seniority. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m.and the class starts promptly at 10 a.m.

JD Foundation yard sale in Abbot postponed until July

ABBOT — The JD Foundation yard sale that was set for Memorial Day weekend in Abbot has been postponed until July 22, 23 and 24. Donations for the sale will be accepted. The items can be dropped off in Cheryl and Victor Morin’s barn or arrangements can be made for pickup. Any gift baskets or gift certificates will be used in July.
