BANGOR — Morita’s School of Dance and the Morgan Hill Dancers of Hermon were honored to represent Maine at the 20th Anniversary of Dance Excellence in Los Angeles.
Fourteen dancers from Morita’s School of Dance, ages 10 to 26, made up the team and performed at Disneyland and the International Performance Boards, earning two gold awards and three silver awards.
Sara Leonard and Morgan Robinson were chosen to represent MSD in the Dance Excellence Company Show with the Young Americans. Morita’s School of Dance also was invited to perform at the 2012 International Dance Festival in Manila, Philippines.
Dance Excellence is a one-week program with four days of classes, a day to perform at Disneyland and a day of Performance Boards at Knott’s Berry Farm, finishing off with a banquet and company show. One studio from each state is invited, and 10 other countries were represented.
The dancers enjoyed a great opportunity to meet other dancers from around the world. Morita’s School also represented Maine at the first Dance Excellence in 1991 and in 1992, 1996, 1998 and 2003. Seventeen parents and siblings also joined the group this year.
The dancers will perform one of their gold-winning routines during the 43rd annual production of Morita’s School of Dance at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at Peakes Auditorium, Bangor High School. Dancers age 3 through adult from the Hermon, Bucksport, Milo and Newport studios also will perform. Tickets may be purchased at the door or at the studio by calling 848-5083.
