DENVER, Colo. — In support of National Great Outdoors Month, which encourages Americans take part in healthy activities in the Great Outdoors.
Campgrounds affiliated with GoCampingAmerica.com are offering 20 percent off their nightly rates from June 1-25.
“As far as physical fitness goes, today’s kids are the sorriest generation in the history of the United States,” said one parent quoted by author Richard Louv in his best-selling book, The Last Child in the Woods.
Louv found several alarming statistics, which document the increasingly sedentary lifestyles of America’s youth and the extent to which they are losing the physical and psychological benefits that come from spending time in nature.
In an effort to encourage parents to spend more time with their children outdoors, President Obama has proclaimed June as national Great Outdoors Month.
Building on Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” initiative, which encourages children to eat healthier foods and increase their physical activity, Great Outdoors Month is intended to encourage parents and their children “to move, run, play and thrive” in our state, national and local parks and other scenic places.
“Camping is not only the most affordable vacation option, but it encourages families to get involved in a variety of healthy outdoor activities, from hiking and fishing to river tubing and white water rafting, or simply playing on a beach,” said Paul Bambei, president and CEO of the National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds, which hosts the GoCampingAmerica website.
In a press release Bambei said that many of the campgrounds listed on GoCampingAmerica.com everything from organized nature activities to outdoor crafts classes, games and other fun family activities and special events that help families build memories to last a lifetime.
And you don’t even have to have a tent or RV to participate.
Well more than half of the 3,300 privately owned and operated campgrounds, RV parks and resorts that are listed on GoCampingAmerica.com offer rental accommodations ranging from safari tents and teepees to cabins, luxury park model cottages, yurts and RVs. Some campgrounds even offer covered wagons, cabooses and tree houses available for overnight stays.
GoCampingAmerica.com also provides e-coupons that consumers can use to obtain discounts at Camping World (www.campingworld.com) and Coleman (www.coleman.com) camping supply stores as well as RV rentals booked through El Monte RV, which has agreed to provide 500 free miles plus 50 free miles a day to GoCampingAmerica visitors who rent an RV for at least one week during the June 1-25 period.
Additionally, GoCampingAmerica is hosting a summer-long video competition, in which campers can submit 2-minute videos of their camping trips to compete for several camping-related prizes, including a grand prize of a weeklong RV trip in an El Monte RV motorhome with free camping at GoCampingAmerica campgrounds. The video competition runs June 1st through Labor Day weekend. Details are available at www.GoCampingAmerica.com.
