Principal John W. Farrington has announced the honor parts for the graduating Class of 2011.
Kristina Rose Jamo, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Jamo of East Millinocket, has been named valedictorian of her class. She will attend the University of Maine in Orono to study kinesiology.
She participated in varsity soccer and basketball for four years, serving as captain of each, was a member of the tennis team her freshman, sophomore and senior years, and was a member of the Stearns High School track and field team.
Jamo received the French, civics, world studies and biology awards and was on the honor roll all four years. She received the U.S. history award and served as a delegate to Girls State during her junior year. She assisted with the National Honor Society, March of Dimes and Catholic High School Youth Ministry, served as youth soccer and basketball coach and volunteered at the East Millinocket Recreation Department.
Joshua W. Deakin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ryan Lowell of Medway and Mr. Jody Deakin of Oakridge, Tenn., has been named salutatorian of his class. He will attend the University of Maine in Orono to study psychology.
He participated in the foreign language club and winter carnival all four years, and was active in pep band, jazz band, All State Jazz Festival, pit band for a school musical and the yearbook.
Deakin served as peer counselor, made the honor roll all four years, received the academic excellence letter for all four years, and received the chemistry award, multimedia award, Phi Beta Kappa award, University of Rochester, the Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony award, French award, algebra 2 award, and the English award. He served as vice president and president of the student council and was a student representative to the East Millinocket School Board. He aided his community by participating as a presenter at D.A.R.E. graduation, assisting the American Legion with a seniors Christmas party and helping the East Millinocket Recreation Department with several projects.
Taylor A. McCafferty, daughter of Scott McCafferty of Mattawamkeag and Lisa Borrello of Woodville, has been named first honor essayist for her class. She will attend the University of Maine at Farmington to study English.
Taylor J. Tanous, son of Mr. and Mrs. Nolan Tanous of East Millinocket, has been named second honor essayist for his class. He will attend the University of Maine in Orono to study political science and prelaw.
Andrew D. Carrell, son of Cheryl Carrell and the late “Ted” Carrell of East Millinocket, has been named third honor essayist for his class. He will attend Cedarville University in Ohio to study sound engineering.
