BREWER, Maine — A Brewer police officer charged two area teenagers with drug possession and other charges Monday night after she saw one of them throw what turned out to be a usable amount of marijuana and a marijuana pipe out the window of their vehicle.

Summoned were the passenger, 19-year-old Brianna Illingworth of Holden, who was charged with falsifying physical evidence and possession of a usable amount of marijuana, and driver Samantha Gormley, also 19, of Levant, who was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and a usable amount of marijuana as well as illegal possession of liquor by a minor, according to Cpl. Levi Sewall.

The incident that led to the charges occurred shortly before 9:30 p.m. while Officer Liz Kelley was involved in an unrelated traffic stop on South Main Street, not far from the intersection with School Street, Cpl. Levi Sewall said Monday night.

While Kelley had a vehicle pulled over, she saw another one traveling onto South Main from a side street. As she watched, she saw a passenger, later identified as Illingworth, roll down a window and toss items out that later were identified as a usable amount of marijuana and a pot pipe, Sewall said.

During a subsequent search of the vehicle the teenagers were riding in, Kelly reportedly found liquor in the trunk.

Sewall said it appeared that the items were tossed out of the car because the girls panicked when they spotted Kelley.
