WASHINGTON, Maine — Police in Knox County are investigating a head-on collision in the town of Washington that killed one person and sent a second to the hospital Saturday morning.
The crash occurred at around 9 a.m. Saturday when one vehicle pulled into the path of an oncoming truck while attempting to pass another car on Route 17 near the junction with Route 206, police said.
The driver of the first vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver of the truck was taken to Penobscot Bay Medical Center with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, according to a press release from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
Police had not released the names of the victim or the injured person early Saturday afternoon.
Investigators from the Maine State Police and the Knox County Sheriff’s Office were on the scene Saturday working to reconstruct the fatal crash.
