Writer to introduce novel at Jesup Library

BAR HARBOR, Maine — Author Julia Spencer-Fleming will be at the Jesup Memorial Library to introduce her latest novel, “One Was a Soldier,” at 7 p.m.  Saturday, May 28, at 34 Mount Desert St. in Bar Harbor. This is the latest title in her Clare Fergusson/Russ Van Alstyne mystery series.

Conservation head to address county planners

ELLSWORTH, Maine — William Beardsley, Commissioner of the Maine Department of Conservation, will speak at the Hancock County Planning Commission’s 41st annual meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, at the Ellsworth Public Library meeting room. Solo sailor to speak at Propellor Club dinner

BELFAST , Maine — The Propeller Club of the United States, Searsport/Bucksport Chapter, will hold its next monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, at the Shriners Club on Northport Avenue in Belfast. The featured speaker will be retired Royal Navy officer and solo sailor Captain Roy Reed of Searsport. His talk will address the use of modern electronic navigation systems, including AIS, to enhance situational awareness at sea.

Allergy group to meet at Pen Bay Medical

ROCKPORT, Maine — The Maine Food Allergy Group meets from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 23, at the Picker Family Resource Center on the campus of Pen Bay Medical Center. They meet on the fourth Monday of every month. Topics to be discussed will include ingredient substitutions for food allergy sufferers, preparation techniques for allergy friendly food, and product availability of allergy friendly food. Cancer Care Raffle to support midcoast initiatives

ROCKPORT, Maine — Now through June 23, the Pen Bay Healthcare Foundation is offering a Cancer Care Raffle to support cancer care initiatives in the midcoast. Tickets are $5 each. Proceeds will help fund community outreach programs. Tickets are being sold at Pen Bay Cancer Care Center and Bangor Savings Bank in Camden. Historical society planning school calendars

ADDISON, Maine — The Pleasant River Historical Society is planning a 2012 calendar of photos of schools and classes from Addison, Columbia and Columbia Falls.
