BELFAST, Maine — Limited space is still available for the Belfast Maskers popular Theater Camp. This year’s young thespians will be taught by Angela El-Zeind, with additional instruction and demonstrations from trained theater students and professionals. El-Zeind comes to Belfast from Athens, Greece, where she teaches drama to children in elementary and middle school. She also will play Rose in “Dancing at Lughnasa” and Isabel in the Gilbert & Sullivan musical comedy “Pirates of Penzance” on Belfast Maskers’ Festival Stage in Steamboat Landing Park this summer.
Children ages 8 through 14 are offered a co-educational experience in singing, dancing, script development, costuming, lighting design, choreography, sound design, set painting, prop design, set decoration and more. A typical day at camp will include vocal and physical warm-up exercises and classes in numerous areas, from character development to stage combat.
The camp runs 9:30 a.m.-noon Monday through Friday, July 4-15, at the Belfast Maskers Waterfront Theater, 43 Front St.
Camp culminates in a public performance by the children that will showcase the skills and knowledge they gained through the term. Previous year’s performances included “Belfast’s Got Talent” and scenes based on the tales of King Midas and Icarus.
The cost for the two-week program is $175. To register, visit http://www.belfastmaskers.com/ to obtain a registration form and instructions. For more information about Belfast Maskers Summer Theater Camp, call Aynne Ames at 505-0199, or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
